Submission 3208 — Ms Alexandra Buchanan — NDIS Future Generations Bill

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 3208

I am Alexandra Buchanan, a disabled person and disability advocate.

The NDIS has changed my life. The support I receive has helped me achieve goals I never believed were possible. I have support with meals, cleaning, and getting into the community, and because of the NDIS I am able to run my own business.

I have serious concerns about this Bill and I ask the Government to withdraw it in its current form.

My main concern is that the proposed changes may increase administrative burden, reduce flexibility, and punish people who cannot respond quickly because of disability, crisis, hospitalisation, burnout, or inaccessible communication. Community sources note the Bill makes major changes to access, planning, and supports, and the government’s own impact analysis says the preferred reforms would reduce participant numbers and some supports.

Disabled people should not lose support because a system is too rigid, too fast, or too inaccessible. The NDIS must remain focused on individual need, communication access, human review, and genuine safeguards.

I ask the committee to protect participants from losing supports due to “not contactable†rules, inaccessible administration, automated decision-making, and broader funding changes made without proper co-design.
