Submission 3239 — Name Withheld — NDIS Future Generations Bill

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 3239

My name is and I am a family member and carer for participants on NDIS, additionally, I have previously worked as a Youth Worker and have experienced working with clients with disability who relied heavily on NDIS funding.

My main concern about this bill is that it creates administrative burden to those who already have such limited capacity and a misuse of time for those of us who have to support them. Creating barriers for people who already have to live with so many, is unfair and quite frankly cruel. Many amendments of this bill completely strip anyone who is on NDIS (or applying to gain NDIS funding) of their humanity, it’s demoralising and makes life so much harder than it needs to be.

This bill affects my family and the people I support because it creates unnecessary pressure for all involved and gives us no hope, when most of the time that’s all we have left to keep surviving.

I know from personal experience of supporting my husband how much the NDIS funding and flexibility have improved his mental health and ability to keep going. If the bill goes ahead and things become harder to access I know how easy it is for him to slip back into the mindset that no one cares, and that he isn’t significant in this life, when he is the most important person to me and his child.

I want the committee to understand that these aren’t just numbers that they’re dealing with, it’s the partners, the children, friends, family, community of the participants (and future participants) as well as the participants. We are all mostly hanging on by a thread and things are already hard, making access to NDIS harder gives us a very clear message that we are not valued as humans, it sends the message that money is all that is important in this life, and that compassion and care mean nothing.

My position on this bill is that I do not support it as it creates more barriers and ableism for people who already have to deal with so much of that.

I ask the committee to please consider our lived experience (one of so many) when reviewing this bill.

Kind regards,
