National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 33
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to you not only as an NDIS participant, but as a person whose ability to live independently, work meaningfully, and participate in the community depends on the support this scheme provides.
The NDIS is essential to my life, and I am deeply concerned about the proposed cuts and changes to eligibility and supports. Without the NDIS, I would not be able to work in a sustainable or meaningful way, nor contribute to my community as I currently do.
The recent changes are already affecting the way I live my life. They force me to pick which parts of my life I may need to give up, whether to choose between having a shower or a cooked meal, in order to fit my budget.
What is especially difficult is the growing sense that participants are being treated as the problem, despite relying on supports that have already been assessed as reasonable and necessary. People with disabilities should not have to repeatedly justify the support required to participate in everyday life.
The NDIS allows me to function. It allows me to participate in society, maintain employment, maintain my current well-being and contribute to my community. Without these supports, those things do not simply become more difficult — they become impossible.
I am not asking for more than I need. I am asking for the support that allows me to live, rather than merely exist.
I urge you not to support changes that reduce access to the NDIS or restrict the supports people rely on every day. If reform is necessary, it should focus on improving the systems around participants, not making participants’ lives smaller to make the system easier to manage.
Yours sincerely,
Hong Nguyen
