National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 335
Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is and the NDIS is very important in the life of my brother, and it has been since 2017.
I don’t support the current Future Generations Bill before parliament. The bill covers many new rules and cuts that will impact adversely on my brother’s quality of life.
The most concerning one for me at the moment is the Reduction in social and community Participation funding by 50% as of October 2026. If this bill is passed my brother will be unsupported for many hours in a week. He needs 1:1 support at all times and is only safe if he has this level of support. There is no other option for him but ndis funded support. Consequently I fear what will happen to him if this bill is passed.
is 66 years of age and has had a traumatic life in an institution from age 9 to 36. There were some improvements in his life when he moved out into community with supports in1996 after the royal commission found systemic neglect in institutions in Queensland. Since the Ndis came in in 2017 his quality of life has improved greatly: he is well cared for as he now has the support he requires, he is able to complete tasks at home and he has become an active member of the community. This will change if his social and community funding is cut by 50% in October.
I have concerns about many other aspects of the bill also. Therefore I would like to ask the Committee to recommend that the bill be shelved until there has been more substantial discussion and negotiation with the disability community about it. This bill should not be passed in such a hurried manner that little thought is given to the consequences of the bill on the lives of people like my brother.
Yours sincerely,
