National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3385
I am sending this email to make a submission to the Senate Enquiry following reports on the ABC News yesterday about the Discrimination Commission’s comments about planned amendments to the NDIS.
Attention was drawn to the fact women would be unequally affected by the proposed changes as they fulfil most of the caring duties.
I am a Senior Medical Specialist, semi retired but still conducting my sole Private Practice, with considerable difficulty and interruption. I have been left to be the 24/7 sole carer of my son who suffers unpredictable, uncontrollable life threatening seizures and cannot be left unattended. I am the provider of his care by day and a request for 24/7 supervision that he needs has been refused since February 2024 when a review of his plan was lodged.
He is not receiving the care that has been independently assessed as being required and I am not, and have not been, able to ensure either his or my safety. I am the sole household income provider, now on a pension having exhausted my superannuation on his care over the past 30 years without any medicare, private health or any other support services or assistance.
I continue most difficultly following my divorce after 20 years of marriage in 1992 due to domestic violence. I cannot continue in this way and am most concerned about continuing to be forced to do so by the NDIS. My son’s current funding expires in August and I am most concerned and terrified of being left to care for him on my own as occurred in June 2024 until January 2025.
I trust that my son will be provided with the level of care for which he is eligible. We continue to await the outcome of a recent review of his funding to ensure his safe and adequate care.
Kind regards
