National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3396
Dear Committee,
I am writing as a single 65 yr old carer, caring for two sons aged 35 & 37 yrs on the NDIS. They both live at home with me.
One with Autism level 3, and the other with a serious mental health diagnosis schizoaffective disorder & Agoraphobia- with a history of many hospitalisations.
Both men have benefited greatly from the NDIS supports, giving them a life, routine, structure and purpose. Meeting many of their goals.
My concern is they will have their lives ruined with the mat pulled out from under their feet leaving them alone, unsupported and vulnerable. They’re both in set routines which work well. They have improved so much over the time they have had NDIS supports.
If they lose their funding, meltdowns and behavioural outbursts will occur. Physical aggression and verbal outbursts. Their mental health and well being will deteriorate.
My safety will be an issue.
Also, withdrawal and isolation from the community will be evident.
Both men need support in the community to keep behaviour in check, alleviate and support anxiety/paranoia.
Medications need to be monitored and supervised….compliance to prevent undesirable outcomes that we see in the news.
What services are available in regional areas to pick up the pieces? None that I’m aware of.
I do support reform that deals with criminals, fraud, poor practice and predators.
Please don’t take away the best support my sons have ever had. They have a life with good supports, and well cared for.
I’m depending on the NDIS supports to be in place to continue care when I’m dead and gone, as we have no other family to support or assist. This concerns me greatly.
My caring responsibilities will increase if funding is taken from them, and I’m too tired and burnt out to take on more than I already do. My autistic son was diagnosed at age 2.5 yrs, so it’s been a long haul - very challenging and difficult.
Thank you
