National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 3480

Hi everyone , My name is . I am writing as my husband D ’s guardian . I would like this email to be submitted to the parliament committee that is voting on passing the legislation of the NDIS bill that I oppose . has been on the NDIS since February 2021 after being diagnosed with Young Onset Alzheimer’s in 2019 . YOD Alzheimer’s is a disease that there is no cure and leads to death . ’ NDIS has been cut after a change of circumstance application in December 2025 , then again in March 2026 . This has impacted his care greatly . is in a SIL home and has lived in this environment since February 2024 when I could no longer care for him at home due to his aggressive behaviours related to his disease. With further reductions in his funding he will be left with no 24/7 supervision which will be unsafe for him . requires 24/7 2:1 care , he needs full assistance with daily living . is incontinent and needs frequent changes of clothing through the day and bedding throughout the night . His plan only allows a sleepover and not an active support worker to change him throughout the night . He should not be expected to lay in soiled clothing and bedding for 8 hours because of funding shortfalls .He is like a helpless child . We rely on his social and community access to attend physical activities such as swimming 3 times a week to ensure that he keeps his mobility for as long as possible . His Special needs Dentist , GP and Geriatrician appointments can take up to 3 hours of 2 support workers to attend appointments in a wheelchair accessible vehicle. Simple appointments that we take for granted take a lot longer to attend . Regular visits home to see family in a familiar environment is beneficial to his overall mental and physical wellbeing . This will be detrimental if he has further cuts to his funding . It is inhumane to expect my husband to live the remainder of his life restricted to living indoors and having no access to the community like all Australian citizens . is not a dog to be left to die in the backyard . The stress that is placed on myself is overwhelming at best . I advocate for my husband as best I can . was placed in a SIL house initially in February 2024 till May 2024 . I had made a formal complaint to the NDIS Quality and Safeguard Commission in relation to fraud in this matter . This was forwarded to the Fraud division and I don’t know the outcome of this complaint moving forward . It has been over 2 years since my complaint . is now with a very caring SIL provider after the initial horror of being placed with the first company . I understand that changes need to be done to the system but not at the expense of the care of participants like my husband .

If investigations to complaints were handled promptly maybe participant’s wouldn’t be the easy scapegoat’s for an easy fix with budget constraints. Please place humanity before dollars .
