Preserving choice of providers for daily care (Family or carer experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission to the Senate Community Affairs Committee

NDIS Future Generations Bill 2026

My name is .

I write with deep concern for my niece, 42, she is dependant for all of her needs. She relies on the support of trusted trained staff who know needs and that feels comfortable with. The proposed NDIS reforms threaten to strip her—and thousands like her—of dignity, autonomy, and safety.

This bill isn’t progress; it’s regression. It resurrects the shadows of institutional neglect, where disabled lives were treated as burdens to be managed, not lives to be lived. The current NDIS, flawed as it is, grants the right to exist and participate in society.

I implore the committee:

  1. Reject cuts to community participation funding—isolation isn’t “cost-effective,” it’s cruelty. It will mean isolation for and many others like her.

  2. Guarantee appeal rights — No bureaucrat should decide fate unchecked. Even bureaucrats make mistakes and there should always be an avenue to appeal, especially when these decisions are often life altering.

  3. Preserve choice of providers—registered or unregistered, trust and security is of the upmost importance. (and her loved ones) should have the right to choose who is going to be involved in her daily care. Care that involves very personal things like toileting, showering, dressing etc… These things cannot be handled by just anyone who a provider deems fit. The choice should be the participants.

is valuable, life isn’t disposable and it shouldn’t be treated as such. Think about and thousands like her as you are making you decisions.

Kind regards,
