National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 491
To whom it may concern.
My name is I am writing in response to the Future Generations Bill before parliament, on behalf of my uncle . He is an elderly man, nearly 70 years old, with severe intellectual disability he acquired in childhood, long before I was born. He cannot communicate verbally, has the behaviour and self preservation capabilities of a 3-5 year old. He needs to have direct supervision from a carer at all times, or he is likely to accidentally harm himself through doing things that any other adult would consider dangerous through common sense. Some simple examples of things he has done when not supervised are: walking into traffic, touching hot things like boiling kettles or stoves and eating discarded cigarette butts.
I understand that the proposed Future Generations Bill is intended to reduce expenditure of the NDIS for non-essential and frivolous activities and I approve of reforming waste. I expect that the 50% cut to social and community participation funding and the AI/automated decision processes in the bill will cut ’s funding of one on one contact and supervision/care. I expect that will result in injuring himself, poisoning himself or dying by accident, which could have been avoided if he was adequately cared for through the appropriate NDIS arrangements that currently exist. Will you please request amendments to the bill so that people with disabilities who need the NDIS will not be harmed through neglect from critical funding cuts?
Kind regards,
