National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 572

Submission on the NDIS Amendment Bill

I am a disabled person on the NDIS. I am 19 and rely on my parents for support. I completely oppose the amended changes to the Bill and am extremely concerned for the impact and existence of disabled folk/community.

My main concerns about this bill include: - Loss of supports - Community participation - Children/early intervention

Loss of Supports

NDIS funded support, like support workers, assistive technology and access to therapies are not an optional part of existing as disabled person and removing these or treating them as a luxury/big demand. My only access to community is through online spaces and so, it is upsetting to see basic support revoked and treated as a luxury in to which disabled people die.

Community Participation

The ability to participate in ‘normal’ life as a disabled person is so incredibly limited as it is. The funding through the NDIS is only towards support worker funding for accessing everyday events and chores that you would take for granted. As a 19 year old, the only thing giving me a chance to see my friends (about 1 time a month) is support workers helping me. I do not want to have to rely upon my family for every single trip out of the house and the removal of this would put more labor and frustration onto them, de-stabilising my lives and theirs.

Early intervention The way the NDIS is designed, the way it has been explained to me is that it is a preventative system. Functional supports and assistive technology is funded to prevent disabilities from becoming more severe, not reacting to disabled folk almost losing their lives. Removing supports, especially from young children before themselves and their families are able to develop support systems is an incredibly harmful and de-humanising approach that will only ever cause more struggles in the future.

I want the committee to understand that the proposed cuts will kill or severely impact the lives of disabled and their support systems.
