Ignores fluctuating needs and systemic barriers (Individual advocacy)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 597

I am a Community advocate for NDIS.

This Bill fails to recognise the long term ramifications of its proposed cuts and changes on the wellbeing of disabled Australians. Through my work with the disabled community and my studies, I have seen firsthand how NDIS funding enables people to live inclusively and protect their right to live with dignity. The changes in this Bill, increased administrative burdens, automated decision making and rigid timelines, are not person centred. Mental health and disability support must be trauma informed and flexible, yet this Bill ignores the realities of fluctuating needs, crises and systemic barriers.

The Bill’s lack of consideration for mental health and disability is unnecessarily cruel and exclusionary. It contradicts evidence based frameworks that prioritise individual needs and community inclusion. Therefore, I urge the committee to reject the changes that will make continuity and access within the system more difficult.

Sincerely,

Emma
