National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 691

As a mum and full time caregiver to my two ASD level 2 children, the changes and cuts to the NDIS have shaken me to my core. I am scared, angry, and completely distraught.

I don’t understand why the solution for the budget cuts were to remove disabled children from the NDIS. When in reality we know it is some providers who are taking advantage of the system. When you introduce profit motive into disability care, there will be those who take advantage, and down will go the care and concern.

It is absolutely appalling that people who are not medical professionals are making the decision to cut most early intervention (OT, Speech pathology, Psychology) for these kids. When we know every single health professional and specialist preach that early intervention with these therapies is absolutely key. These early interventions are critical for these kids to be able to participate in society. These therapies are a lifeline. Denying children access to these therapies only guarantees they will need the NDIS later in life.

The cuts will make it harder to access the NDIS, reduce supports for people already in it, and remove support before other options are in place. This will leave people with disability without the support we need to live everyday lives. When support is cut, the need for support doesn’t disappear. It gets pushed onto families, carers and other systems like hospitals.

This is already causing stress and uncertainty for people who rely on the NDIS. These decisions are being made without people with disability. That needs to change.

I am asking you to:

  • stop cuts to supports

  • ensure no person is removed from the NDIS without suitable alternatives in place

  • protect participation and inclusion supports

  • maintain our right to choose who provides our support

  • ensure review rights remain fair, accessible and effective in practice

  • embed genuine co-design with people with disability

  • be transparent, show our community the legislation before it goes to parliament fix the system so it works properly.

People with disability are being cut out of the NDIS supports we need to live ordinary lives, where we are included in our communities with real choice and control over our support. Weakening it affects people with disability, families and the whole community. Please listen to people with disability and act to stop these cuts.
