National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 816
My name is and I am writing as a carer for my partner with schizophrenia and OCD.
I am writing to express my serious concerns about the NDIS Amendment Bill, and I ask that the Government withdraw this Bill.
Carers like me rely on the NDIS to support the people we love. The proposed changes, including stricter communication timeframes, increased administrative requirements, and rules around participants who are “not contactable”, do not reflect the reality of caring for someone with a disability.
There are days when we are in crisis, dealing with health emergencies, or simply overwhelmed managing day-to-day care. The idea that supports could be paused or reviewed because we did not respond quickly enough is frightening and deeply unfair.
The added administrative burden also falls heavily on carers. I already spend significant time managing appointments and other communications. More compliance requirements will take time away from the actual caring I do.
I want the committee to understand that behind every NDIS plan is a real person, and often a carer who is doing their best under incredibly difficult circumstances. This Bill, as proposed, makes our lives harder and puts vulnerable people at risk.
I ask the committee to listen to carers and withdraw this Bill.
