Subject: Submission Opposing Proposed NDIS Reforms
To the Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee,
I am writing to oppose the proposed NDIS reforms.
These proposed changes are causing enormous fear and uncertainty throughout the disability community, not only for participants themselves, but also for families, carers, support workers and providers trying to keep people safe and supported.
I absolutely support stronger action against fraud, exploitation, and deliberate misuse of the NDIS. However, these reforms appear to go far beyond targeting fraud and instead risk making life significantly harder for legitimate participants already struggling to access essential supports.
Disability does not disappear because funding is reduced or supports become harder to access. All this will do is shift the burden onto exhausted families, unpaid carers, emergency departments, hospitals, aged care systems and community services already under immense pressure.
Australians believe in fairness and in looking after vulnerable people. Many disabled people are already fighting every day just to participate in society with dignity. Reforms that create more barriers, confusion, fear and instability are not the answer.
I urge the Committee to genuinely listen to disabled Australians, carers, families and frontline workers before proceeding with reforms that may cause serious long-term harm to some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
Thank you for considering my submission.
Kind regards,
Tanya Evans
