National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 923
Hello there,
My name is and I am writing to oppose the amendments to the NDIS introduced in the latest budget review 2026.
I am a chronically ill person who has multiple co-occurring and overlapping auto immune diseases and I also work as an advocate and activist in the area of community support.
My main concern for this bill is the added barriers it wi create for people who, due to the very nature of their disability or illness, cannot in a timely fashion meet the strict reporting requirements being introduced. This restructure of the scheme seeks to put people in nest productive boxes, requiring those who are in most need to become something they do not necessarily have the capacity to be; predictable, on top of their circumstances and capable of explaining and responding to the chronic nature of their experiences.
It is square peg circle hole logic. It does not seem to genuinely support and understand the very existence of those of us living with these experiences. Disability is not convenient, on time and it is not something that can be coerced into being productive.
This bill will affect many people I know because by removing the human element with automated services, replacing individualised, tailored support with broader one size fits all and banning the rights of autonomy for disabled folk to choose their own workers, you are essentially deciding that only the most convenient customers are allowed access to this scheme, while the more complex, intersecting folk will fall away- it’s forcing people out by creating impossible barriers for them.
I do not support this bill because instead of seeking to provide extra supports and catchment for those who need it most, you have demanded they battle it out to see who is worthy. This new bill will end lives not save them.
Please reconsider. People with disabilities in this country are not criminals, they are loved members of our communities and essential to the fabric of who we are.
Thank you
