Protecting rights of people with disabilities (Individual advocacy)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 933

To the Senate Community Affairs Committee,

I’m writing to share my heartfelt opposition to the proposed NDIS Future Generations Bill and my deep concerns about the changes the Government plans for the NDIS.

As someone who cares deeply about the dignity, safety, and inclusion of people with disabilities, I feel that the proposed changes are not only unjust but also threaten to undermine the rights, safety, and independence of these individuals. These changes would limit their choices and control, restrict access to the community, and undo the progress we’ve worked so hard to achieve toward their full participation.

I urge you to protect the rights of people with disabilities and ensure that the NDIS remains true to its core principles. Specifically, I ask you to:

  • Reject the proposed cuts and any measures that would reduce social and community participation.

  • Ensure strong rights to review and appeal, giving individuals the ability to contest decisions that affect their lives.

  • Safeguard true choice and control, allowing the freedom to choose providers registered or unregistered while maintaining necessary protections.

Allowing these changes would risk a return to times when people with disabilities were marginalized, devalued, and often overlooked or mistreated. Although the current system isn’t perfect, it empowers people with disabilities to participate, contribute, and be recognized as equals in our society.

I kindly ask you to take these concerns to heart and not pass the NDIS Future Generations Bill.

Warm regards,

Jordan Furness
