National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 947

25/05/2026

To Whom It May Concern on the Community Affairs Legislation Committee,

I am an adult child of participant on the NDIS. When my family member accessed the NDIS our lives changes – yes, our lives.

While they were supported:

To manage issues before they became too complex, overwhelming and dangerous To better manage simple day to day tasks Consistently followed through on basic health issues that required consistent follow through, follow up appointments and testing – meant that health issues were finally addressed and not accumulating Their mental health finally stabilised, as they could now function in the world better. To be in a good enough space to reconnect with lost relationships and explore new interests

I was:

Able to live a more normal life not having re chase after a parent every other day to ensure basic matters were attended to. Not dealing with the fall out of crisis after crisis Able to have a more normal parent-child relationship Able to attend to my own, my family and my work needs more as I was not also dealing with the needs of a parent with a disability.

I absolutely believe in the need to have a sustainable NDIS. I absolutely believe the NDIS needs reform. I DO NOT however believe this has to come at a cost to my family members’ or my own life.

Cuts to community access funding, among other aspects of the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendments (securing the NDIS for future generations) Bill 2026 will have dire consequences for my family member and myself.

For my family member we will return to:

Poor mental health Poor physical health Ongoing suicide attempts Risk of homelessness Regular crisis

For me:

Stain on me and my mental wellbeing

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 947

Stain on my family Stain on managing my work commitments Stain on my relationship with my parent

What is the government saying by the introduction of this bill?

PEOPLE WITH A DISABILITY DO NOT DESERVE TO LIVE NORNAL LIVES?

SUPPORTERS/CARERS/FAMILY MEMBERS OF A PERSON WITH A DISABILITY DO NOT DESERVE TO LIVE NORMAL LIVES?

WOMEN OF AUSTRALIA DON’T MATTER? Because the support needs don’t go away, it just becomes unpaid work – often performed by women.

I can not return to how things were – my family member will not survive, and I cannot return to those dark days. This is NOT the answer to reforming the NDIS.

Sincerely
