NDIS Future Generations Bill 2026

Anonymous

I am the primary carer for my 21 year old son who has an NDIS plan.

I am extremely alarmed and frightened for my sons future due to planned cuts and cost-saving rules proposed in the NDIS Amendment (Securing the NDIS) Bill and recent planning framework revisions.

I do not have time to go through all the changes as I work full time and care for when I am not at work. This is also a very short window for individuals like me to prepare a detailed submission and my son cannot understand or make a submission due to his intellectual disability. I am doing the best I can, but I feel like I am letting my son down because I do not have time to fight this dangerous Bill.

My main concern for is for the proposed Arbitrary Plan Cuts: Proposed rule changes could allow the Minister to uniformly slash funding for specific support categories (such as community participation) across the board, without needing to reassess participants individually.

  • The major impacts for my 21-year-old son with an intellectual disability: o He may not be able to live a good life being out in the community with people he knows and can be safe with. His current plan allows him to do this.

o Risks to his safety and wellbeing if I cannot work to support us to stay in our home and we are at risk of poverty and homelessness as I approach retirement

o His behaviour in a group and his communication skills will get worse if he cannot access the community after all the hard work he has done to learn how to make a friend safely and appropriately

o The arbitrary approach will negatively impact the range and availability of providers that are suitable for him

o The arbitrary approach will mean that we cannot plan his life which has major impacts for Micheal and myself as his primary carer

o If rights for review are removed this is removing a basic right that typical people in the community have when they are impacted by government decisions.

I know of other organisations and advocates are preparing detailed submissions and I support their perspective including Sam Paior of The Growing Space.

I support improvements to the NDIS to ensure it is around forever but please do not punish the participants by making it impossible for them to live with their families and to participate in their local communities. Focus on the structure of the NDIA and fraudulent providers not people with disability and their families.
