This article provides guidance for an access delegate, local area coordinator, early childhood partner or internal review delegate to understand how to:
- review evidence to determine the likelihood that future supports may be reduced
- use this information to support the person to understand the eligibility requirements.

Before you start
You have:

Evidence early intervention is likely to reduce future support needs
Review evidence to determine the likelihood that future supports may be reduced
Review the available evidence to consider if early intervention supports will mean the person is likely to need less disability supports in the future.
To determine if early intervention will help reduce the person’s need for future supports, you need to look at:
- how their impairment might change over time

- how long they have had their impairment
- if there’s been a significant change to their impairment
- if their needs are likely to change soon, such as if they are finishing school.
Early intervention requirements are just one of the eligibility requirements. To be eligible for the NDIS under early intervention, the person must meet all the following:
- age requirements
- residence requirements
- early intervention requirements.
