When we say, early childhood intervention supports we mean Early Intervention Supports for Early Childhood which is an NDIS support (external) we fund in NDIS plans for children younger than 9.

This article provides guidance for early childhood partners and planner delegates on:

  • how to complete the Personal and Environmental Circumstances (PEC) case
  • capacity building questions relating to early childhood intervention including early childhood intervention at an intensive level.

Careful consideration should be made when completing the PEC case to best reflect the participant and their family’s actual circumstances and NDIS funded support needs. The PEC case is used to inform the Typical Support Package (TSP) and planner delegate reasonable and necessary decision making.

3 How to complete early intervention supports for

early childhood questions

When working through the PEC questions it is really important that the early childhood partner or planner delegate:

  • considers all the available information, including information they have gathered from the family and other professionals who support the child. They should provide responses to the PEC questions based on the participant and family’s needs in the context of the responsibility of the NDIS. This might not align with the amount or type of funding a family is requesting
  • ensures any requests for funding from a family are accurately recorded in the Activity Log – Internal Note
  • provides sufficient information to explain their responses to PEC questions.

Having accurate information is really important as responses to PEC questions will help inform the TSP for first plans. For all plans, responses to PEC questions provides important information to help planner delegates make funding decisions.

Once a draft budget is generated, a planner delegate will consider it against the reasonable and necessary criteria. They will need to review all the available information to allow them to make an informed decision about funding in the plan.

The free text fields have character limits. If more space is required, add the information to internal note in the Activity log.

For each developmental area that is identified as needing capacity building support, select whether the NDIS support needed is medium to low or high.

Describe in the free text field what the child can do or requires support to do to indicate why you have selected medium to low or high.
