Theme: Home Modification Sub-Theme(s): Ceiling Hoist

As per NDIS Guidance for builders and designers, new ceiling hoist and installation is considered a home modification, whereas a separate assistive technology code exists when replacing the ceiling hoist unit itself into existing tracks or for a standalone hoist (e.g., gantry, or wall mounted hoist that does not require any new structural home modifications to be installed ninto the roof). SATE(G)/= ext{[unclear text]}.

Therefore, to summarise, a ceiling hoist is considered a home modification when:

  • a new hoist unit and tracking is to be installed either to the ceiling or wall. A ceiling hoist is considered as assistive technology when:

  • it is supply and fitting of a hoist unit only to existing tracking.

  • itis a free-standing gentry system

Criteria for Reasonable and Necessary Supports

The following outlines considerations when determining if NDIS funding requests meet requirements.

34.1(c) Value for Money

\ (Supports represent value for money; i.e., the costs of support are reasonable, both in terms of benefits achieved and the cost of alternative supports.)

The criteria for reasonable and necessary supports:

    Criteria
What are the expected benefits of the support provision?
How will effectiveness of achieved outcome be measured?
When will effectiveness of achieved outcome be achieved?
Are there other supports required to achieve or maximise the reported support outcomes for participant?

34.1(e): Support coordinates with but does not replace informal support

(funding or provision of supports takes account of what it is reasonable to expect families, carers, informal networks and the community to provide)

Consider NDIS Support for Participant Rules Part 3.4.

Is criteria met?: Yes / No → s47E(d) - certain operations of agencies

34.1(f): Support is most appropriately funded by the NDIS

Support does not duplicate other supports
(Supports do not duplicate other supports delivered under alternative funding through the NDIS such as Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) funding.)
