AT supports that require mandatory TAB advice

The following AT items must be referred to TAB for advice if the delegate believes the item may meet the R&N criteria:

Beds Please note this is the cost of the BED ONLY, and does not include the cost of separate mattress support.
Any specialised powered bed only, above $6,000
Any new request for Queen Size (or larger) beds - all prices
Any Enclosed beds (potential restrictive practice) — All prices
Note: requests for beds that include bed rails only need to be referred to TAB if the bed rails are being prescribed in response to behaviours of concern.
Commode Mobile Shower Commode - inclusive of tilt in space and seating specifications above $10,000
Any new shower trolley or change table request above $10,000
Communication and speech aids Eyegaze controlled interfaces and related system - all prices
Communication devices above $5,500
Disability Related Health Supports (see DRHS page for detail) New BIPAP and CPAP machines
Climate control - all requests for air conditioning and/or heating
Cough Assist Machines (excluding like for like replacements)
Life Support Ventilators
Negative pressure wound therapy pump

VAC Dressings and VAC Machines

Hearing aid requests above the participant’s level determined in the “Assessment hearing device level“

  • All bone conduction hearing aids
  • All Bone Anchored Hearing Aids (BAHA)
  • Replacement Cochlear Speech sound processors before expected service life (6 years)

Hoists

  • All new ceiling or vehicle hoists above $12,000
  • All requests for a secondary hoist support (does not include vehicle. hoist)

Mobility equipment

  • All walking aid (gait trainer) or standing frame above $7,000
  • Scooters above $6,000
  • Any secondary mobility support in addition to an existing wheelchair/prosthetic mobility support, above $6,000.
  • Manual Wheelchair only above $9,000
  • Manual Wheelchair (with seating and components) above $15,000
  • Power assist wheel/devices (for manual wheelchair) above $13,000
  • Power Wheelchair only above $20,000
  • Power Wheelchairs (with seating and components) over $32,000

Orthotics (each / per limb)

  • New Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) based solutions above $7,000
  • Replacement of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) based solutions above $10,000
  • Other Orthotics above $7,000

Prosthetics (each / per amputated limb)

  • Below knee prosthetic leg over $20,000
  • Below knee prosthetic leg for recreation use over $13,000
  • Above knee prosthetic leg over $25,000

Any recreational AT e.g. sport wheelchairs/hand cycles/all terrain vehicles/e-cycles/Segway or Omeo devices above $12,000

Recreational vehicle modifications (excluding cars) e.g. motorcycle, boat, caravans above $12,000

Any new Pool Hoist above $10,000

Any AT related to significant behaviours of concern and restrictive practice

e.g. strollers and prams for children older than 7 years, restraints, harnesses, excluding standard mandatory vehicle restraints/seat belts.

Other

Assistance animals

Replacement AT supports that are not considered ‘like for like replacement’ over $15,000
