Terms of reference: Capability and Culture of the NDIA

To Who it may concern,

My name is I am years old and have always cared for my son who is now years old, goals and core supports set down by the NDIS from the beginning was for to be in supported independent living with one other male house mate. has been living with one other house mate for the total time he has been with LDS under the NDIS plan that was set for him. The new plan sent on the 1st December 2021 still continued to provide for one other house mate. On the 18th of August 2022 we received a letter stating that specialist disability accommodation dose not meet the NDIS funding criteria for him. An occupation therapist who conducted a 46 page functional capacity report, stated quite clearly that has an extreme functional impairment in self care, and a support worker needs to provide person to person support providing constant assistance. The promise and assurance that and I his mother, my Husband and father wanted, was for to become accustomed to a hole new environment with our help, while we are alive and well. With the help of NDIS and LDS he has been able to settle in to living with one other house mate and support provider. The unit he is in has three bedrooms, one being used at night by a support provider, the unit is close to his place of employment at would be extremely distressed if he is forced to shift home now. occupational therapist was sent the letter outlining changes to funding, and intern has written a 19 page report pointing out key points in her original report as to what dose require, Due to his functional impairment. We his parents, are extremely stressed about well being now, let alone the angst that this would cause if he is forced to move from his current environment, as his disability is not going to change, and in fact it could quite well deteriorate as he ages. Three years ago after much cooxing and assistance from us, and the LDS, We all thought this would be his home for life now after getting him used to living with one other house mate in a new environment, and disruption to him getting to his work at Now based on the functional capacity report the NDIS assessor is telling us he does not meet the NDIS funding criteria. The report that the assessor refers to, if read in its entirety could not be interpreted the way it has been, as the 19 new page report points out in great detail has not improved, for him to now live with a new ratio of 1:3 support. We did not let him go from our family environment, only to find that decisions like this could take place now or in the future. I am years of age now. Will we still be going through this in our 80’s? We thought that when the NDIS came on board, that this would guarantee future to go into a secure environment when we are no longer alive. What has happened now with your latest assessment, has been an extreme disappointment to what we thought the NDIS was set out to achieve. So in closing after reading this letter and if you could read the functional capacity reports done by it would open your eyes to true ability.
