Lack of support coordination and home maintenance following flooding

General issues around the implementation and performance of the NDIS

                      Submission 6 - Supplementary Submission 3

Hi, this is another update to submission 6 please.

It’s now been just over 6 months since I was accepted onto the NDIS. I still don’t have good news. I fired my support coordinator just before Christmas as she wasn’t putting supports in place. It’s been a month and I don’t have another yet. I’m too scared to try another. I don’t think I have enough funding to both find another SC to put supports in place, and also get help when it comes time for my review.

I finally have one SW for social support once or twice a week, she’s been coming for 3 weeks now. She takes me shopping but is not suitable for some of the other activities I would like to do.

I don’t have any employment support even though its been urgent from the beginning. I barely have a job now due to not having this support.

I don’t have cleaning/home maintenance support which I have been funded for and is also becoming urgent due to recent flooding in my house when it rained. Or a fall monitor, so someone knows if I don’t get up.

I am on my own and completely lost, my self esteem and confidence is at an all time low. I’ve applied for an advocate but they say it will be 4 – 6 weeks, which means it will be 8 months passed without proper support IF they can help me sort this mess out and find a SC. It could be longer. The system is so difficult to navigate for anyone, let alone people who can’t communicate via the phone, and don’t have anyone to look out for them. I think my LAC is still helping, but I’m not sure.

The NDIS needs to make sure people who are on their own don’t slip through the cracks as I am. They also need to look at the way SC’s are paid.
