General issues around the implementation and performance of the NDIS

I applied for NDIS assistance in December last year. After an accident 18 months ago left me with a permanent Traumatic Brain injury, vision impairment and balance disorder.

The road to support is full of obstacles and in a country like Australia it’s appalling.

The biggest problem is getting paperwork to support the application in the first instance as there is no guidance for medical practitioners on information that needs to be provided. It would be easier if the Ndis provided a form.

It took 6 months to get a response, telling me I needed more evidence, then it has taken three weeks for the support worker assisting my application to draft a letter of response.

The support worker should have known that I needed to have evidence that the condition was permanent when they completed my application.

Now I have to wait for my appeal to be processed.

The whole process is too convoluted there are too many players who are too misinformed.

If I had gotten assistance sooner I could have gotten back to work.
