Independent Assessments

Hello. I’m writing to you to express my concern about the proposed NDIS changes. The idea of independent assessments is terrible and should be cancelled. The NDIS is all about giving people with disabilities a voice, and plenty of opportunity to gain independence and live the best life that they can. I feel that if independent assessments happen, we will all just be categorised under one heading, and we’ll be assessed by people who don’t have much experience or any experience with people with disabilities. The NDIS is meant to let individuals decide on what they need, not have others deciding the needs of individuals. I’m completely blind, but I don’t need as much help in developing personal care skills as other people may require. I don’t require as much mobility as others may need. I know my abilities; I know my needs, and it should be for me to decide what I use the NDIS for, not have others decide that. Reducing funding, and adding independent assessments, will limit choice and not allow people to have a voice. Hope you’ll take all these things into consideration. Thank you. Regards
