Medicare Levy Amendment (National Disability Insurance Scheme Funding) Bill 2017 and 10 related bills [provisions]
Submission 24
My submission ,
This tax rise is not universal!
You are asking the working poor who are raising kids, who have health costs, school costs, utility costs, associated vehicle costs, rent & living expenses to do the heavy lifting.
Yet a retiree who is pulling $70 grand from their super fund does not have to pay.
This same retiree gets rebates on all of the above , doesn’t have to school kids and all associated health care is rebated. They may own their home, so they don’t have house payments or rent, yet are exempt from the burden of this tax rise.
The NDIS still doesn’t have clear boundaries and is open to rorting. Young hard working families already have to deal with stretched budgets should not pick up this expenditure.
The Federal government loses 16.6 billion in tax minimisation for the rich who are looking to minimise their tax obligation. So wealthy folk are not sharing the burden of this tax rise. Young and middle aged wage earners will pay more than their fair share as they can’t minimise their tax and then in turn pay less Medicare levy.
Qld health workers get very lucrative salary sacrifice, so their Medicare levy will be less as they minimise their tax through this scheme. Wage earners can’t even claim their fuel costs like many wealthy business folk. You have even given big business a tax cut. This doesn’t make sense. If working poor have less money to spend in these big businesses, then they won’t need to hire any workers. The wealthy had the debt reducing levy dropped, so they are paying less.
Australian tax system favours those who have a clever accountant and who can use the many large books of tax law. A wage earner will be hurt the most. Go to work, claim nothing, pay more tax than someone who can right off massively to reduce tax burden.
Widebay is a low socio seat and has the least disposable income in the nation. We don’t have access to bulkbilling or very little. So the working poor pay same tax as someone in a seat like chifley and that seat has 99.9% bulkbilling. These working poor are losing 9.5% of their income now through compulsory super and many that are retired never had their wage stolen. These working poor are then told they can put more into a super fund that may be corrupt , to save for house deposit. These families should not be asked to lose their wage to prop up a scheme that has no perimeters. Especially when these working poor can’t access many of the free things that the NDIS scheme will offer.
Young families with several young women in it are still menstrating, so those women who are retired also don’t have to pay gst on their sanitary products. This tax just squeezes more money from the young.
Recommendation:
Stop tax incentives for superannuation. The yearly tax minimisation of 16.6 Billion for superannuation would adequately pay for the NDIS. Share the burden with retirees who are pulling 10s of thousands from their fund tax free. Ask ex politicians who are receiving a taxpayer funded pension and not asset tested to pay more tax. Drop gst off sanitary products.
I appreciate you giving me this opportunity to be heard.
