Hi,
I work 4 days a week and support 24 people.
Our local LAC’s work 5 days and support 190 plus
There are some of the people who I support who will be at serious risk without a support coordinator. Lives will be lost. Most of the people I support have psychosocial disability or are in high care SIL and require 60 plus hours of COS.
The people in SIL can only need 20 hours a year if they are stable and they have higher needs when medical issues present. This is an example of flexibility that is needed. SIL support is often due to carer burnout.
The psychosocial people are often episodic and need 90 plus hours a year. There needs to be flexibility. We work for free way too often.
I have C-PTSD and am very knowledgeable in this area and get great results.
I am unable to work in a big corporate organisation due to my own disability – but I make a huge impact on peoples lives and use NDI funding well and save money.

I am one of the people that need to be able to be kept as an independence navigator if that comes in. The big registered providers are not set up for traumatised participants and create more trauma for no gain. This is a serious issue and needs to be recognised. I have no problem with registration, but small, independents need to be able to register/tender.
Other suggestions are:
- All support coordinators/recovery coaches need to be registered
- All SC/PRCs need to have minimum qualificaitons or equivalent experience
- All Support Coordinator businesses need to be completely independent
If they do have to do a tender process that there be multiple providers in the area, sort of like des has lots in the area to choose from.
