To whom it may concern, the proposed bill is a violation of human rights. The following things are of most concern:
- Forced 1:3 support for people with high needs requiring 24/7 care. This affects safety and the human right to choose who you live with and how you live your life. Not acceptable!!!!
- Forced registration- it is the large registered provider’s that put people in danger as they cannot adopt a person centred approach and choose to only support people with low needs.
One of the biggest cost blow outs is the money the NDIA spends on fighting people over badly put together plans - this could be prevented by having planners who actually know their jobs and can do basic maths, planners who actually read and understand specialist reports and can translate that into reasonable and necessary supports.
The removal of the right to appeal will cause deaths as a ridiculous large number of plans are put together by planners who haven’t a clue, who don’t read and understand reports and create unsuitable plans.
People with a disability are individuals and a one plan suits all approach will result in injury and death.
The government should be spending money on a reporting body that actually follows up on reports of fraud and endangerment and deals with those individual cases rather than punishing everyone with a disability because of a few bad apples that if dealt with, would not be a problem.
Please do not let this bill through without further consultation and serious thought about the human rights it would be removing from people with a disability.
