Impact of NDIS Bill on daughter with cerebral palsy and multiple impairments

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Getting the NDIS Back on Track No. 1) Bill 2024

Submission 308

NDIS Bill (Getting the NDIS Back on Track)

Submission:

  • It is vitally important that in ANY consideration of a participant by the NDIA in ANY of their system designs, dealings, decision making, or assessments … they MUST consider the WHOLE OF PERSON, not just cherry pick the most convenient impairment for sake of expediency or cost-cutting. Our 27yo daughter has cerebral palsy, severe intellectual impairment, dysphagia, epilepsy, generalised anxiety with specific panic disorders, chronic reflux, chronic constipation, sleep disorder and eczema… as her main issues.

  • IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT ADEQUATE RIGHTS OF REVIEW ARE BUILT INTO THE ASSESSMENTS. The envisaged impairment assessment tools are intended to be used and completed by trained health professionals. THE “TOOLS” ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS THE HUMANS INTERPRETTING THEM ON ANY GIVEN DAY. Even highly regarded professionals can have bad days, be distracted, be overworked, not tuned in, not listening properly, have personal problems that make them grumpy or short-tempered or sub-consciously be influenced by their own prejudices.

Thank You
