Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

my son has multiple disabilities and it is very hard to find accomodation for respite and for his long term care also there is limited programmes for him and he hardly ever ticks all the boxes for support an individual package would be ideal and more respite facilities made available and long term living facilities that are supported and available to young people (not a nursing home)

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• People with a disability can choose the types of support to use,
• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
• Increased ability to coordinate services to suit the “whole” person/family,
• Less red tape, with planning done locally by people who know their community,
• Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Life-skills,
• Support for families and carers,
• Accommodation options,
• Flexible in-home/outside home respite,
• Crisis and emergency support

I support the introduction of the NDIS. i have been battling disability services for years to recieve the type of care and assistance we need not, what they want to give us wich usuallly is no good not all people with a disability need the same things FLEXIBLE IS GOOD.
