Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

I have complex health needs and have to pay for physiotherapy, that is ongoing for life, plus my medication is not on PBS that is an extra cost of $138.00 per month, my wife who is also my care has complex health issues as well

I also feel that although I am now approaching 66 that the NDIS should cover persons with profound disabilities regardless of age, their is no meaningful levels of support provided for those people, between the ages of 65 - 70 you fall into a black whole this is appalling.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• People with a disability can choose the types of support to use,
• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
• People with disability/family will influence the types of support and services offered

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Therapy and allied health services,
• Support for families and carers,
• Flexible in-home/outside home respite

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

Because the present system is archaic, and is ruled by people although their intentions may be good they have no idea as to what the person with the disability and their carer need or wants, to institutionalised, to provider focussed.
