Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
I have a Autistic sister who is in a Group Home and funded by DSC This works extremely well However as she is nearly 65 years old she will not be covered by NDIS as there is ’an age cut off at 65. What will happen to her current funding???
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
-e The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person, -e People with disability/family will influence the types of support and services -offered, Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can -no longer provide support
-The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
e Support for families and carers, In-home care and domestic assistance, Positive -behaviour support and psychological services
-I support the introduction of the NDIS.
-I support the principle of the NDIS but am concerned that it has become too -Political with no certaincy of ongoing funding being committed to by Government.
-I agree for my submission to be made public
