Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
At present my granddaughter is having to wait and wait for the necessary
equipment that she requires. She is physically and mentally totally dependent . Eg She waited months and months for a hoist to lift her into bed and when it arrived , it had no sling ! and that was over a month ago!!!! Her special chair needs corrections made and she has to be on a waiting list and has been told that too will be months and so it goes on and on . Hopefully an Insurance scheme will provide the nesessary finance to speed up the necessary help |required.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
- Ensure support and equipment is available when needed,
- The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
- Removal of age barriers to services for children
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
- Therapy and allied health services,
- Equipment and home/vehicle modifications,
- Support for families and carers
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
I have a severely disabled grand daughter who requires 24hour constant care. As she grows it will be very difficult for all of us to move, transport and provide her with this care.
