Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

As the system currently stands, there is simply no certainty for both the person with a disability or the family.

The current system also limits the capacity for people with a disability to engage in the work force.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

  • Ensure support and equipment is available when needed,
  • Better access to education and work opportunities,
  • More opportunities to participate in the community

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

  • Employment support,
  • Recreation and community access,
  • Support for families and carers

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

Best and most comprehensive idea we have seen in a long time to resolve a complex and ongoing crisis for people with a disability, carers and their families.
