Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

The funding being taken away at age 7 puts my child at a disadvantage for receiving therapy that he needs. This is the time when he/we need to have more support, not less. It also affects us in the education area, as he is lucky enough to be placed in an Autism Support class, but with reduced funding the specially trained teachers are leaving to find other jobs and it disrupts the classes greatly.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
• Access to reliable information about support options,
• Removal of age barriers to services for children

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Therapy and allied health services,
• Support for families and carers,
• Crisis and emergency support

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

I support the NDIS, so that Australians who have a disability can access services they need without having to worry about the costs involved. It will also help the families and careers to get the support that they greatly need so that they can continue to care for their loved ones.
