Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

It has taken years to access funding for my son who is severely disabled and there is no certainty attached to the funding. We have gone from having to re- apply every 15 days for the last year- to 6 monthly. Without this funding our darling boy would not be able to stay living in the family home. We have been unable to access equipment and support that we want.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

-Equipmentsupport and equipment is available when needed, -People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams, The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Recreation and community access, Flexible in-home/outside home respite

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

Without this scheme. Children like my son will not be able to continue living in their homes. We need to be able to choose our services and support and have it funded.
