Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

Firstly, my Son has a slight disability he does have a main stream job but unfortunately when he becomes unemployed I have to go through the rigmarole of proving his disability for him to receive Centre Link payments. Nothing changes his disability hasn’t gone away he is unable to do this for his self, it’s all to daunting. I no longer live close to him so next time he becomes unemployed it will mean me traveling to assist him.

Secondly I have an Autistic Nephew. I have watched the heart ache his parents have gone through to find the right services for his needs, especially when they could no longer care for him. So unnecessary.

Thirdly having worked within disability’s I’ve watched the struggle parent’s and carer’s have optaining the services and help they need.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Better access to mainstream support and services,
• Minimising the number of times people have to tell their story in order to get support,
• Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Employment support,
• Support for families and carers,
• Accommodation options

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

Any thing that makes life easier , more accessible and less complicated for the disabled and there carers.
