Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

We are on long waiting lists for therapy through Adhc, then when we do get some service it’s for a short time and 1 specific goal. It doesnt seem to progress throughout the childrens changing development and needs. We have 1 son who doesn’t qualify for any support despite having a severe language delay. Opportunities for a thorough eduaction aren’t available to either of our children.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Better access to education and work opportunities,
• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
• Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Therapy and allied health services,
• Education support (technology/services/equipment),
• Case management, planning and coordination

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

For all the areas it provides support/funding that we currantly don’t get!
