Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

Because it lacks individual needs .. Also does not take into account that everyone and there. needs are unique . is not a box to tick more a person who needs to be heard.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

  • Ensure support and equipment is available when needed,
  • People with a disability can choose the types of support to use,
  • People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams,
  • People with disability can choose who comes into their home,
  • Minimising the number of times people have to tell their story in order to get support,
  • Less red tape, with planning done locally by people who know their community

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

  • Equipment and home/vehicle modifications,
  • Support for families and carers,
  • Crisis and emergency support

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

Because my son is a member of a tight family I rely on outside organisation to assist us in a range of different needs. So for me to be apart of our extended family I need to be in control of those special people / carers that make everyday life every thing it can be . Though there are some great organisations out there we still have to fit into there ideals of how OUR family works. I just want to have for my son individualised package that I console with the people that benefit to grow into the greatest person he can be . If you’ve never walked our shoes don’t tell me and my family that you know how we feel. Understand that we all don’t fit into your boxes . Cheers from mum and family x
