Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

I have to find out from others, what might be available to me and the family in order to live a fulfilling life. Information is not readily available.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
• Minimising the number of times people have to tell their story in order to get support, Access to reliable information about support options

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Therapy and allied health services, In-home care and domestic assistance,
• Positive behaviour support and psychological services

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

Even though I was born with a hereditary disease, I had no idea that it would be so difficult as I aged to do basic things like walk, shower safely or sweep the floor. No one knows when some one in the family may be struck down with a disability - either at birth or through accident. The social upheaval & lifestyle difficulties can be immense. Without the support it is very difficult to live as a normal person in the community. It is very difficult to live without feeling bad because of a passing hurtful comment from others,that affects my well being.
