Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

This is not for myself but for people with dependants with disabilities who I have spoken to and the many worries they have about what happens when they are no longer around.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• More employment of people with disability and less reliance on social welfare,
• Access to reliable information about support options, Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Life-skills,
• Employment support,
• Case management, planning and coordination

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

A good NDI scheme will make a big difference to so many families with a member suffering from a substantial disability. It can help people to help themselves and relieve worries about the future when ongoing family support is not available.
