Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
I require 26 hour per day care, as the result of a sporting accident 19 years ago. I’m presently bound by an out of court legal agreement that provides my care and comes with restrictions.
I would like to know if NDIS will incorporate everyone, including me?
I also would like freedom and choices with my care.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
-Better access to education and work opportunities, -People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams, -Increased ability to coordinate services to suit the “whole” person/family
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
-Employment support, -Accommodation options, -In-home care and domestic assistance
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
A National scheme is better than State run program’s because it gives me freedom of choice to care accommodation and work.
I has the potential to eliminate stress and pressure put on families.
