Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

Disabled people need as much support as possible, they need a voice, they are too often pushed to the background of everything, out of sight, out of mind.My husband is a paraplegic of long standing so we have faced a lot of problems in those years, some things have improved, many need a lot more attention. It’s hard to pick just 3 things which would be of importance,for the NDIS to make an impact.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• More opportunities to participate in the community,
• More employment of people with disability and less reliance on social welfare,
• People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams,
• Increased ability to coordinate services to suit the “whole” person/family

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Equipment and home/vehicle modifications,
• Support for families and carers,
• Crisis and emergency support

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

NDIS is necessary for the future of all disabled people, there is a lot of difference with all disabilities, accident victims, birth defects, disease or whatever, they need access to the help specific to them, no two people need the same assistance, etc.any support is of some use.
