Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

Very limited funding for employees and clients - meaning NEEDS ARE NOT BEING MET, waiting lists too long and taking a long time to process due to note enough staff.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Better access to mainstream support and services,
• Less red tape, with planning done locally by people who know their community,
• Access to reliable information about support options

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Life-skills,
• Flexible in-home/outside home respite,
• Case management, planning and coordination

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

People with a disability are given their dignity. Less paperwork once accepted into the scheme. They don’t have to continually fill in forms and be interviewed for every little thing they need. It cuts down a lot of time wasted on waiting.
