Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

I have worked in the disability system for 3 years now. I have seen high- fuctioning people with minor intellectual impairment receive hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in funding (spread over multiple packages), at the same time as individuals with multi-faceted complex medical, behavioural, and educational needs who go un-funded. This current system just doesnt work.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• More rights for people with a disability,
• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
• Minimising the number of times people have to tell their story in order to get support

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Life-skills,
• Accommodation options,
• Flexible in-home/outside home respite

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

I believe in a better future for all individuals

I agree for my submission to be made public
