Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

no certainty that services will be avaialable when we need them fragmented system- education training work dont fit together well limited funding for supports

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

More employment of people with disability and less reliance on social welfare, More rights for people with a disability, People with disability/family will influence the types of support and services offered

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

Employment support, Accommodation options, In-home care and domestic assistance

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

well I hope that it will improve the current very piecemeal approach that we have now. However I fear that things will be better for a few people, but the majority will continue to struggle without adequate services, especially those with intellectual disabilities- that dont have a strong lobby group and whose carers are exhausted.
