Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

My sister his been the full time care for her son since he was born five years ago to the expense of her career, involvement in the community, her older children needs and her martial.

Why should someone be forced to give up these things due to the “genetics lottery” as well as the lottery that currently exists with disability support and care services. Why should my nephew be made to feel like a burden on society, his mother and family because of something out of his control? And why should bday have to worry, as he gets older, that no one will be there tl look after him?

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• People with a disability can choose the types of support to use,
• Better access to education and work opportunities,
• People with disability can choose who comes into their home

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Therapy and allied health services,
• Equipment and home/vehicle modifications,
• Accommodation options,
• In-home care and domestic assistance

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

I support basic human rights
