Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

There is not sufficient funding and the help is not automatic . In order to get help you have to try and try again and again . You have to beg for help…There is a system to be followed even it won’t work. There is no choices …There is no permanent respite except group home. There are few respite homes , not much funding for community access respites and very few experienced workers to work with children with challenging behaviours…

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Ensure support and equipment is available when needed,
• People with a disability can choose the types of support to use,
• More rights for people with a disability

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Equipment and home/vehicle modifications,
• In-home care and domestic assistance,
• Flexible in-home/outside home respite

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

I have a son who has a high support needs 24/7. We need a lot of respites epecially community access and respite homes and also domestic assistance. It will give us peace of mind knowing that there will be permanent supports/respites available when needed…
