Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

The current Australian system, lacks resources and so many families/people with disability find themselves being full time carers, with no respite, lack of facilities, opportunities the list goes on

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Ensure support and equipment is available when needed,
• Better access to mainstream support and services,
• More opportunities to participate in the community,
• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Equipment and home/vehicle modifications,
• Recreation and community access,
• Support for families and carers

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

I’ve seen first hand how people and their families with a disability can find themselves with no or little support. Anyone can be born with or acquire a disability; so we are all vulnerable; the government needs to have the NDIS to ensure everyone affected by a disability is supported NDIS is the best way for all Australians
